Thank you for a wonderful performance at Chan's. My husband and I saw you at Tanglewood for the time last fall and I had been raving about you to my friend, who is a true lover of jazz, ever since. When I learned that you would be at Chan's, I couldn't resist the opportunity to introduce her to you. We traveled a long way, (from Albany, NY) but it was worth every mile, and then some. As a matter of fact, we left Woonsocket feeling as if we made a new friend! You are the best. It was a most enjoyable performance and you are not only extremely gifted, but very warm and gracious!

I hope you're able to come to Schenectady on September 21st. It happens to be my friend's 80th birthday and this would indeed be a special treat. Looking forward to seeing you again, but in the meantime, I'll just keep playing the CDs over and over and over again.

I stumbled on Rebecca's new CD of ballads on a listening station at Joseph Beth's Bookstore in Lexington, KY, and I have to say that it is, without a doubt, one of the best I have purchased in years. I love Shirley Horn, Cassandra Wilson, Diane Reeves, Betty Carter, Nancy Wilson, etc.., and this woman has a style that is very much her own. Her voice is laced with a greatness that I have not heard in many years, and I am honored to have it as part of my collection. If you have not purchased this CD, do it NOW....or at least soon. Open a nice bottle of wine, turn down the lights, turn off the phone, lock the doors, and be prepared to be lifted to another world. OK.....so I love the CD, but it really is one of the best I have purchased out of about 700+/-, and I am one lucky man to have found it. Looking forward to catching a concert hopefully. Gee......does she ever come to Kentucky? Have a great listen, and thanks for a true work of art in jazz vocals.

Last month I was in LA for the weekend and had the pleasure of talking to Tierney Sutton. She absolutely insisted that I go to hear you at the Jazz Spot - and what a gift that was. You blew me away! I find that jazz singers are usually primarily actors, oriented to the lyrics of a song, or instrumentalists, who sometimes treat the lyrics simply as sounds). But you are about the only person I have ever heard who can illuminate both lyric and music, seamlessly, beautifully, simultaneously. I know how much skill and presence of mind that takes, so I am completely in awe.

I am writing you because I am going to be in Boston next week (May 22-26), and I wonder if I could meet with you to get some advice. I just put out my first CD and am trying to figure out how to develop my craft and my career from here. I live in Seattle but am trying to get the heck out of here soon. Only I don't know where I should go - I'm homesick for the East and have a great support network in Boston, but Tierney said that Boston would be the absolute pits for building my career. ("Ask Rebecca!" she said.)

So, I'd love it if you could give me a kind of "master class" to share with me any career development advice you have, as well as your feedback or tips on my singing. I could send you a CD in advance. Please let me know if you would have time for that on May 22, 23, 24 or 25.

Rebecca, just happened to be playing on the computer on a "too hot" Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas. "It's Another Day" is on in the background. Thought I would check to see if you had a website. I was certainly delighted to see that you had and that it was so accessible. Thanks for a lot of great memories. Unlike a lot of other songs, whenever a Rebecca Parris song gets caught in my head over and over, it actually makes for a better day. Recently sent a copy of "It's Another Day" to some friends who are expecting a baby boy in September. Told them I was dedicating your version of "Let the Flower Grow" to their new son. What an exquisite piece.

So, when are you playing Las Vegas? There are lots of great jazz venues out here and we'd love to have you. Maybe a stopover on one of your frequent trips to LA (my former hometown, as was Rhode Island my former home state.....three cheers for both Chuck Niles and the Newport Jazz Fest).

Hi, Whew! This is scary. I can actually write to my favorite vocalist. I was listening to your CD a Passionate Fling (which you personally singed for me when you were in New Port RI at Salvia College). I just happen to type in your name on the internet and there was this great web sight I had to get that album because it has "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". That song has a lot of memories. It was the theme song of our marching and bugle corps. That was along time ago. First Time I heard you sing was with the Ken Hadley's big band. You sang at some high school in Mass. (Trombone player was a music teacher there). I was in the first row with tears just coming down my face as you sang that song. Last time I saw you was at Chan's in Woonsocket last year. You sang the most fantastic jazz version of Happy Birthday I have ever heard in my life. I never knew that song could be jazzed up. Did you record anything with a big band? Please let me know. Once again, thanks for your great performance this past Tuesday at JAMS in West Palm Beach. I know Jim and James had a ball backing you--they told me so.

You'd also be perfect for the Gold Coast Jazz Society in Ft.Lauderdale. Unfortunately getting something done with them is akin to the mating of elephants--everything is done at a high level, with a lot of noise and it takes a year to get results. I'll keep you posted.

MY FOOLISH HEART is even more than I expected. As a sucker for ballads, I just knew it would be a good album. It turned out to be a GREAT album. I say that because each time I replay it, I hear something different. You have really grown as an artist.

And of course I'll always remember your introducing of "The Island" to me on that small NCL jazz cruise umpteen years ago. You obviously impressed me.

we did have the occassion to see you a couple of times since, but you have not graced our fair city for some time.

now that i have become modernized (computer) - o.k., so i've been a little slow ... and stubborn, but i'm here. and i am delighted to find you again. just called my favorite record store to order "my foolish heart" and can't wait to get it so i can fall in love again. i haven't done that yet this week so after all, what better way than with my favorite club singer, a glass of jameson (on the rocks, of course), a smoke and oh, let me turn the volume up just a bit. the love of my life from that enchanted october evening resides only in my heart as we have parted (for now?) for about 2 years now, but lately i've been experiencing an unusually strong force that seems to be strumming my heart strings. that has been a every day occurrence yes, but lately...

I've been hearing Bob Parlocha spinning Rebecca's tunes for a while now, mostly while riding around in the car. Finally last night I pulled to the side of the road and wrote down his announcement so I wouldn't forget in the morning! I finally got off my duff and actually ordered "Live at Chan's". It's a not-for-profit organization, and they have mostly serious adult students, many of whom have careers or are beginning to gig around. You might be interested in seeing their web site.

I loved your webpage. It was just great with lots of nice graphics and good information about you. And I liked the fact that you are willing to promote your friends which shows that you are secure in what you do. You don't find that a lot in this arena. I saw you at the East Coast Jazz Festival about two years ago and you were wonderful. I am a vocalist here in D.C. I have only been singing for seven years. I've had a co-stage at the festival for the past 5 years. I'm going out to get your CD with the ballads right away. As any vocalist knows, ballads are more difficult to sing than any other type song. It was 5 years ago when my partner and I first met in a poetry forum online. I was living in Texas, she in Boston. A couple of months after we connected, I received a surprise package of "all things Boston." Included with a Boston tourist videotape and a book of the city was a CD of her favorite local Jazz artist, Rebecca Parris. The CD was Loves Comes and Goes, and attached was a note that read "Play #5 and think of me." Number 5 was "You Are There".

On March 8th, 1997, we met face to face in Virginia Beach for the first time. The occasion was to celebrate my 40th birthday. The CD made the trip. Our meeting turned out to be the four most incredible days of my life, and I came to realize that life really does begin at 40.

Six months later I made the move to Boston. Since then, we've been fortunate enough to catch your performances on Jazz Harbor cruises and at Scullers. Last night she surprised me with the news that next week, on March 8th, exactly 5 years to the day that we met, we'll be in the audience of your 7:30 show at the Regatta Bar. It would mean more than you know if you could perform "You Are There" or "So I Love You," or just about anything from the Love Comes and Goes CD. If you can't, could you just wish Joette & Deb a Happy Anniversary?

Dear Rebecca My wife, Claudia and I, along with our friends John and Maria attended your show of shows at the Regattabar on Saturday October 12, 2002 It was my 12 year seeing and hearing you perform and you get better every time. You may have been voted number 4 in DownBeat, but to us you are and always will be number 1. Your new CD is classy can't wait for the Christmas CD ( You don't have to hum a Christmas song) HAHA. I have been listing to Jazz since I was 14 and I have never heard anyone except for Billie Holiday that can sing behind the beat and in front of the beat the way you do. Rebecca - I needed to take a moment to share with you how much pleasure your new Christmas recording brought to me & my family this holiday season. At first the usual holiday chatter precluded serious listening, but during pauses in conversation, and on the way to breakfast the day after Christmas my sis and the folks were really wowed by your talent. I'd recommend the purchase of "The Secret of Christmas" unconditionally - regardless of how many Christmas jazz recordings a fan of this music might own.

Of course I'm a fan for life, but I wanted to let you know that you made a few others this holiday season!

Rebecca, I just heard you live for the second time the other night, this time in Stoneham. I was totally blown away! You got it goin' big-time, and you have a fan for life right here!! Hi Becky. Yes I remember you when you were just Becky, an unbelievably talented local singer in a band called Pride's Crossing, playing to the loyal fans who crowded the good old Marlboro Holiday Inn. With Jack on the B3 and Michael on drums you sure pleased a lot of people. I remember sneaking a listen while I was waiting tables at the Coach & Six.

You've come a long way since those days. I'm looking so forward to seeing you Friday night in my new home, Southern Cal. Diane and I will be there to celebrate Valentine's Day with you. Can't wait to see you. Bet you'll never guess who this is!!

A few years later I played bass with you and John Harrison AT the Nimrod in FALMOUTH, sorry that I didn't know the tune you sang and I goofed it. I played with Paul last year at the same place , I dug his playing. My daughter and I are both fans and heard you at the HYNES CONVENTION CENTER, along with Matt Gordy. We were both gassed at the performance.

Hi Ms. Rebecca!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your vocal tips, life observations, and encouragement at the Vocal Workshop last Saturday. After attending your concert (which was wonderful), I went to your workshop with a sense of enthusiasm and (always) an open mind. I watched and happily absorbed as you opened yourself up to everyone and shared your knowledge, your experience, and your life. I was hoping I’d have a chance to sing, but I didn’t expect to have the emotional experience I had! It was wonderful! The bonus was to watch the young lady who sang after having watched myself and the gentleman, and see her take it all in and give it back to us. I was moved to tears when I thought of how she’s getting such great information at this point in her life and her potential is limitless.

George is great, and I can understand why you’re so fond of working with him (I was happy to find he’s worked with Clint Holmes…another one of my favorites). I purchased the first CD you mentioned as one of your favorites…”My Foolish Heart” (seems apropos after having sung “I was a FOOL to fall and get that way” at the workshop). I’ll bring it the next time I see you because in my excitement, I forgot to get it autographed.
