We have a decent room in a small inn located in the same building as the jazz
club. Swanky little club that would remind you of a small club in the 1940's.
Dark, everybody dressed real nice, etc.
Weather report - GORGEOUS. Very un-Seattle...clear sky,
sunny, spring-like.
We have a great view of the water; only negative is the noise level in this
area is BAD. Jackhammers, etc.
Hope all is well and you have some fun this weekend.
Truly sleepless in Seattle due to the noise level,
Micki |

Greetings from Woodland Hills, CA. Sorry for the delay, but Micki has been
runnin' more than sittin' still (who said vacations were supposed to be
relaxing)???? I am having a good time, though.
RP "knocked 'em dead" in
Seattle, so here goes some stuff for Micki's Corner:
Stormin' In Seattle
Seattle was a musical success. Rebecca did 6 shows in two nights and took
Seattle by storm. How well did she do, you might ask? Well, the management
talked about having her back again after hearing just the SOUND CHECK!
The club is called Pampas and is a tastefully decorated throwback to the 40's.
Management couldn't have been more appreciative and gracious. The audience
was extremely receptive and Micki could hear words like "wow, she's great" and
"why haven't I heard of her before".
The Barney McClure trio (McClure, piano/Scott Steed, bass/Mark Ilvester,
drums) did a great job of accompanying Rebecca.
RP is quite excited about returning to Pampas sometime in the near future.
Off to L.A. via Big Sur! |

Jazz Store - Carmel, CA
Rebecca had a ball at the Jazz Store; one of her favorite venues. Accompanied
by Joe Gilman on piano, Scott Steed on bass and Eddie Marshall on drums, she
had the audiences' complete attention both Friday and Saturday, May 8 & 9.
Although both nights were comprised of "on the edge of your seats" sets,
standouts were "Lullabye of Birdland"
where Rebecca showed her complete
mastery of improvisation and for Micki, the ballad fanatic, standouts were
"If You Could See Me Now", "These Foolish Things", "Never
Let Me Go", and
"Somewhere Over The Rainbow". Oh, and I
almost forgot about Rebecca's
stunning interpretation of composer Carroll Coates' "London
By Night."
Carroll is a friend and fan of Rebecca's and was at both evening's
performances. At one point Carroll could be heard shouting from the back of
the Jazz Store, "you're a genius." I'm sure the feeling is mutual!
For those of you who have never attended attended a concert at the Jazz
Store, it is truly a "jazz store." You can purchase everything from Monterey
Jazz Festival t-shirts, professional photos of jazz musicians taken by well
known photographers such as Will Wallace (Will, a dear friend of Rebecca's,
was also in attendance), and postcards, magazines, CDs,...you get the idea.
Micki picked up a 35th anniversary Monterey Jazz Festival mug and a t-shirt
commemorating one of America's great jazz stations, KJAZ out of the San
Francisco bay area. After a well-publicized fight for its life, KJAZ was
forced off the airwaves in 1995. Even though I am an east-coaster, one of
the enjoyable portions of my travels to San Francisco was turning on KJAZ
immediately upon entering the rental car.
Speaking of jazz stations, The Jazz Store also has a radio station on site,
KRML, which can be reached at 1410 AM on your dial if you are in the Carmel
area.
Rebecca was thrilled to see her friend, Ron DeArmond, as well as Jim Bourne
and Gale Farthing. Rebecca is now a full-fledged email addict and was
thrilled to meet Rob of Oakland, one of her email pals!.
Rebecca asked me to thank the musicians on this gig for helping to make the
music fun and the gig successful. Also, a special thanks to the great
audiences both nights AND Gil Wisdom and Alan Schultz of The Jazz Store.

Another short snippet:
On to San Jose and Santa Cruz
RP is performing in San Jose Sunday (Garden City) and Santa Cruz on Monday
(Kuumbwa). Micki will be on the scene and reporting to you later in the week.
The Kuumbwa gig (Monday, May 11) will also include a vocal clinic on Tuesday,
May 12. |

Rebecca is back from her successful west coast tour and would like to thank
the wonderful musicians who worked with her in both northern and southern
California: Scott Steed, Joe Gilman, Eddie Marshall, Paul Nagle, Dave Mackay,
Richard Simon, David Dirge, Andy Simpkins and Paul Kriebech.
On June 8, she will be leaving for a gig at Pizza Express in London. Until
that time, she will be teaching and gigging in her home state.
Rebecca is also excited about her upcoming jazz camp gigs in California and
Vermont. For more information regarding either jazz camp, please email
Rebecca at Reboppa@aol.com
